glock membership

Glock Membership - Getting into competitive shooting is easier than it sounds, but it requires minimal equipment to get started in any discipline.

In our Competitive Shooting Guns and Equipment Series blog, we cover specific shooting sports, what it takes to get started, how much it costs to join, and a basic overview of the sport. The fourth shooting game in our series is the GLOCK Sport Shooting Foundation (GSSF).

The Glock Sport Shooting Foundation (GSSF) began in 1991 and holds more than 50 competitions across the United States each year. The competition is designed so that new shooters have low barriers to entry and do not need a lot of practice or experience to shoot. However, this match shoot requires that you use a Glock.

Membership is required to record GSSF matches, so membership will cover the initial cost of recording any match. There are special memberships for families, guardians and agencies, all of which are well supported by Glock.

Like Steel Challenge, GSSF is one of the easiest shooting sports to get started in as it doesn't require a lot of equipment to compete. There were no shots from the holster or reload during fire, so the holster and magazine pouch were unnecessary. However, stage-to-stage transport of firearms allows you to carry the gun in a holster, as long as the gun's slide is locked and there is no magazine in the gun. If you prefer to carry your firearm in a holster instead of a briefcase or bag, you are welcome to do so.

The GSSF separates full-size Glocks from competing larger subcompact or subcompact guns, which is natural since smaller guns have limited ammunition capacity. With a full-sized gun, you have plenty of ammo to take shots, whereas, with a smaller gun, a few mistakes in the armor plate can cost you.

If you have never recorded a GSSF match before, you are considered an amateur. Master level competitors are those who have won multiple GSSF competitions, are classified as Masters in other shooting sports, are members of the Armed Forces Pistol Shooting Team, and some other considerations. These are listed in the GSSF rule book.

Shooting Range Memberships

We've covered the requirements for competing with a Glock in GSSF competition, but it's up to you which model of firearm you want to use! If you have a Glock, regardless of size, shoot it in GSSF competition. No need to go out and buy another gun to shoot a different division. Try the game to see if you enjoy it before buying more weapons or equipment.

Each phase of the GSSF match requires three strings of fire, except for Glock the Plates, which requires four strings of fire. Depending on the capacity of your weapon, you may need a total of four magazines for the match. For larger-capacity pistols, you can load your magazine with more ammunition than the string requires so that you can fire the next string without reloading a new magazine. If you have fewer available magazines than the number of wires of fire required by the stage, arrange for an observer to reload your depleted magazines while you continue your wires of fire.

Pro Tip: Keep an extra magazine for a small capacity pistol that you can use as Barney's magazine for extra rounds of ammo that can help you on stage.

The holster and belt are optional unless you want to carry your weapon from stage to stage in the holster. If you plan to use holsters and belts, make sure they are of high quality and strong enough to hold the weapon properly.

Essay: Buying The Glock Was Easy, Getting Rid Of It Is The Hard Part

The Glock Sport Shooting Foundation website lets you search for outdoor events near you and see all the sports taking place across the country. You can participate in as many competitions as you like. In fact, many people travel across the country for sports. If you want to watch a game before recording it, spectators are always welcome and encouraged to watch. People are welcoming and friendly, so don't be afraid to ask questions!
